Ron Wedge There can be some confusion in Keil product names. Let's try to address them here since this thread is so popular. Keil Software was its own company. It was purchased by ARM, and now the software product line is called ArmKeil.

Even after the merger, we still support four different hardware architectures: ARM, C166, 8051, and 251. See: We have a different compiler for each architecture, but we use the same front-end aka GUI aka Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to call the compilers. Currently we are using µVision5. Before that, the tools use uVision4.

Again, some people write it as uVision4. So it is not enough to say you want uVision, you have to say what architecture you want.

To add to that, each Product has different editions, for The MDK development tools, (sometimes also referred to as MDK5 or MDK-ARM) for ARM devices you have 3 editions: The C51 development tools for 8051 devices have 3 editions: The C166 development tools for C166 devices have 3 editions: These products can be downloaded from. It is possible to download the compiler separately, and install it in Keil. For example, this means even thought you are running the latest µVision IDE, you are using the compiler from MDK version 5.14.
